My Gaming Woes and Hopes

Let’s be real, most of the games I’ve been hyped about in the last year have been major flops. South of Midnight? Stunning story but clumsy combat. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2? Not the sequel I longed for, and definitely not an action RPG to rave about. I’m starting to think the gaming gods are cursing me. Sure, Fable has some intriguing potential, but the silence from its camp is louder than my neighbor’s karaoke nights. And as for Phantom Blade Zero? Still twiddling its thumbs with no release date in sight. But wait—enter Soulframe! This gem might just be the RPG to change my luck.

From Barebones to Badass

As a veteran of the last three TennoCons, I’ve watched Soulframe evolve from what looked like a skeletal open world into a vibrant action MMORPG. Sure, the initial gameplay didn’t exactly light my fire (and judging by the chatter, I wasn’t alone in that camp), but it has steadily morphed into a magical journey packed with charm and style. Seriously, this place drips with enchantment!

Now, let’s talk about the latest announcement—the launch of the Founders program! It’s like a rocket booster for our excitement levels, promising a journey to launch that’s about to get wild!

Just like its big bro, Warframe, this Founders program has options galore. You can pick from four packs, spread across two tiers. For the combat junkies, there’s Tethren; if you fancy playing the sneaky-destroyer type, Sirin is your best bet. And if slinging spells is more your jam, Oscelda’s got your back. Each character choice comes with its own unique primary and sidearm, and a stash of goodies like a talisman and Moonsteel Threads (coz who doesn’t want to transmog their gear?). Plus, let’s not forget the Figments for dyeing armor and Arcs, the precious coin of the realm.

There’s a super tier called Paragon that gives you everything mentioned above, plus a snazzy greatsword and, the cherry on top, the chance to plant your own flower in the breathtaking Eternium Gardens. I mean, have you seen that otherworldly space? It’s magical!

The Price of Adventure

Now onto the juicy part—the pricing! Soulframe’s Wyld packs are priced at $29.99 / £24.99 you lucky punters. The Paragon pack? It’s a heftier $99.99 / £84.99. While that might sound pricey, keep in mind that each pack grants game access and even some codes to share with your friends! That’s not too shabby.

If the trend follows Warframe, those cosmetic rewards will likely be limited edition, so if you want to flaunt your snazzy new gear, you’d better act fast.

And let’s dig into the new goodies from Preludes 12, shall we? The highlight here is the fabulous greatsword, just what our fighter-oriented Envoys were missing! The sub-bosses (now dubbed Agari) are getting a power boost, and guess what? Fast travel has finally arrived! Is it Christmas already? Oh, and we’ve got a new face joining the cast—Jennifer English from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Expedition 33. Talk about star power!

Overall, Soulframe is building up to something epic. A beta? The full launch? Only time will tell. But if you need me, I’ll be happily roaming the Nightfold, slowly turning it into my second home.
