The Elder Scrolls 6: A Glimpse of the Future
What’s Cooking at Bethesda?
So, here we are, folks! It’s been a whopping eight years since Bethesda dropped the announcement bomb for The Elder Scrolls 6. Yeah, you heard that right—eight! Just to put things in perspective, Skyrim’s hype train only took seven years to roll out. No wonder the Elder Scrolls fans are practically clawing at the walls in anticipation!
Recently, Xbox CCO Matt Booty decided to give us a crumb of comfort during a post-SGF chitchat. While chatting about why Arkane’s Blade was MIA from the Xbox Showcase, he casually slipped in some deets about Elder Scrolls 6. You can imagine the ears perked up when he said,
“I would say one of the more challenging balancing acts of someone in a job like mine is balancing that you want to go show the world all the cool stuff you’re working on…”
In a nutshell, he’s saying they want to make sure everything is up to snuff before they let us take a peek at this much-anticipated adventure. And spoiler alert: he claims to have seen the game in action! And guess what? It looked totally amazing!
Why the Wait? It’s Complicated!
Remember way back when Bethesda was nervously trying to publicize The Elder Scrolls 6 to calm the masses over Fallout 76 and Starfield? It was like they were waving a shiny new toy to distract us from the less-than-stellar performance of those games. Fast forward to today, and let’s just say that some fans have lost faith in the studio’s magic touch for creating legendary titles.
Let’s not forget that Todd Howard himself mentioned earlier this year that Bethesda’s returning to its roots with The Elder Scrolls 6. He referred to Fallout 76 and Starfield as “creative detours”—whatever that means! It sounds a bit like saying you took a wrong turn on your way to the candy store. You’re still heading for candy, just… a bit delayed.
So, if Matt Booty has actually laid eyes on The Elder Scrolls 6, let’s just hope it’s not still in its little cocoon stage! Because I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for it to spread its wings. And while I sit here dreaming about mystical lands and dragons, I can’t resist the urge to mention: if you run into a khajiit selling bridges, um, maybe steer clear. Those deals usually come with strings attached!
