Unleashing the Chaos

Ah, tie-in games. You know the drill: they often take beloved franchises and throw their lore into a blender set to puree. Enter Middle-earth: Shadow of War, a game that may just obliterate the rich history of The Lord of the Rings, but does so in a way that’s wildly entertaining. Seriously, this game manages to be such a glorious mess that it remains one of my all-time favorites. And guess what? Right now, you can snag the full experience for under $6. No need to be a Tolkien scholar to enjoy this gem!

The Undead Ranger’s Quest

The sequel to the hit Shadow of Mordor, this game follows Talion, an undead ranger who’s pretty much glued to the elf lord Celebrimbor (don’t worry if that sounds confusing; no prior LOTR knowledge is needed!). Talion gets into some deep stuff when he crafts a new Ring of Power, which gets pinched by Shelob. Yep, that’s right, a giant spider steals his bling and uses it to peek into the future. Talk about a bummer!

The story is a wild ride, but it’s the gameplay that really elevates it. Think of Talion’s combat skills as the love child of Batman’s stealthy shenanigans and a little sprinkle of magical wizardry. As you plow through the story, you’ll soon encounter the legendary Nemesis System. What’s that? Well, it’s a mind-blowing mechanic that makes every enemy encounter feel fresh and alive—sort of like those days when you wished your uninvited relatives would just leave you alone, but in orc form.

This system is a game-changer because it allows each region to have its own set of orc captains ruling the roost. You can choose to dominate or take them out, shaking up the whole power structure in a glorious fashion. But watch out! There’s plenty of backstabbing and drama among these orc leaders, and you can use that chaos to your advantage. Every orc has their quirks, and if you let them live, they’ll remember you—both the good times and the moments of betrayal!

I still get chills thinking about an orc I brainwashed suddenly flipping the script and turning on me. And let’s not forget the excitement of spotting an old nemesis, back from the dead, complete with battle scars. I first dived into Shadow of War on Xbox One, and after multiple playthroughs, I’m now reliving the joys on my PC with the Definitive Edition. The love is real, folks!

Why You Shouldn’t Miss Out

The Definitive Edition of Shadow of War brings the entire package—base game, The Blade of Galadriel expansion, The Desolation of Mordor expansion, and two tribe expansions filled with new orcs to face off against. All of that for just $5.39 / £3.59 at Fanatical—an astonishing 91% off! If you’ve ever hesitated to dive in, let me tell you, this deal is an absolute steal, packed with all the chaos and fun you can handle.

With all the time I’ve invested in this epic saga across platforms, you can bet I’m a fan. In fact, writing this makes me want to jump back in for yet another playthrough. Who’s joining me on this adventure?
