Are We Done Yet with Video Game Movies?
Are Video Game Movies Actually Getting Better?
In a world drowning in video game movie adaptations, it seems that a good chunk of you are just over it. Seriously, 28% of the gaming crowd is waving their arms like a child refusing dinner: ‘No more video game movies, please!’ But here’s the kicker — they’re not all terrible anymore. I mean, some of them are still like watching paint dry, but at least many of them are starting to catch on that gamers actually care about the source material.
It’s become a mini-tradition for my buddies and me to cycle into the cinema like a pack of hyperactive kids ready for candy, just to see the latest adaptations of our beloved games. Even when what’s on screen is a hot mess (yeah I’m side-eyeing you, Super Mario), it’s like a blockbuster event we can bond over. You sit there, popcorn in hand, and mentally prepare for whatever game is next to get the Hollywood glow-up.
What Did You Think About My Poll?
Okay, so I ran a little poll recently to gauge which game you all want to see adapted next. And let me tell you, the results were shocking — or maybe not, given our collective skepticism. Most of you chimed in with the resounding answer: you’d prefer not to see any games turned into movies at all. What a twist!
But here’s something amusing: while a staggering number of you are craving a drought in the video game movie landscape, there were still some intriguing votes. Deus Ex came out on top as the fan favorite — I mean, who wouldn’t want to see an epic espionage thriller unfold, especially if it captures the game’s dystopian vibe? And the second runner-up was Diablo, followed closely by the profound and often chaotic adventure that is Baldur’s Gate 3. I can’t help but wonder how that would even translate on the big screen. Would we see a bunch of celebrity actors fumbling around a dungeon?
Now, not everyone was booing the whole concept. A few folks threw support behind less popular titles like Arc Raiders and… wait for it… Fortnite, which apparently only prompted a handful of claps. Two percent of you were even brave enough to mention The Sims, and my immediate thought was, could we transform a life simulator into a laugh-out-loud comedy? What if it became the next big thing, like what Barbie did for, well, Barbie?
Now, on a side note, a whopping 17% of you were clearly not impressed with my options. You want different games adapted. And here’s your chance; let me know in the comments which game you think would brighten up our cinematic universe the most. Got something brilliant in mind? Maybe we can start a petition to get it on the silver screen! And don’t worry, I won’t take it personally if you roast my poll choices a little.
