Aion 2: A MMO Dream for Customization Lovers!

Rewind the clock almost 18 years, and you’ll find the original Aion taking flight in South Korea. While it may have taken a tumble in popularity over here, it was the belle of the ball in the East for quite some time. Fast forward to presents day, and we’ve got the much-anticipated sequel—Aion 2—strutting its stuff at Summer Game Fest. And let me tell you, this game isn’t just about taking pretty pictures; it’s a sprawling MMO paradise for folks who can happily lose track of time tinkering with character creation menus.

Explore, Customize, and Pet All the Creatures!

Aion 2 basically cranks everything the first game did to 11. We’re talking about a world that’s a jaw-dropping 36 times larger than its predecessor! Why? Because NCSoft’s really rolling out the red carpet for exploration here. Seriously, with this much space, you won’t just be bashing monsters and dungeon diving; you’ll be on a treasure hunt for all sorts of snazzy cosmetic gear, wacky weapons, and furry friends to accompany you on your journeys.

Customization is the name of the game, folks! The character creation tools are so sophisticated, you might find yourself building the most outrageously good-looking (or ugliest—hey, we don’t judge) avatar you could possibly imagine. Want to tweak the jawline? Hairdos? Eye shapes? Go for it! You can hit that randomized button until you summon a creature from the deep that’ll either charm or horrify everyone around you.

And let’s not forget about pets! Yep, Aion 2 is bringing a whole zoo of companions into play. You can collect everything from majestic wings (that let you take to the skies!) to quirky critters that’ll trot along while you quest. Do you want to be the charming hero soaring through the clouds, or the fearsome beast that terrifies opponents? It’s all about the vibe you want to give off, and boy does the game deliver on that gorgeous detail!

When I asked the dev crew how many artists crafted this amazing world, they just laughed and said, “A lot, but don’t ask!” You can see why, though. The quality of art is absolutely next level.

Pets in this game are an adventure in themselves! You’ve got everything from fire-breathing Ifrits to cute slime balls, and even a pet teapot (yes, a teapot!). The bizarre selection means there’s something for everyone, whether you consider yourself more cute or monstrous. Plus, many of these pets are just funky versions of the enemies you’ll fight throughout the game.

So, how do you get these adorable companions? Simple! Just explore, complete quests, and kick some dungeon butt. Before you know it, your inventory will overflow with dazzling and eccentric buddies!

There’s also a nifty little tech trick happening here. NCSoft has patented a way for your characters to sit on some of these odd pets smoothly, avoiding all the awkwardness of a character awkwardly balancing on a giant moon or a rabbit. Sounds bizarre? You bet! But it’s all in good fun!

Even though I didn’t dive into the action myself, the combat in Aion 2 seems promising. The ability to fly at will (when not in the thick of battle) sounds thrilling. Plus, it looks like the dungeon raids are more than just hitting the same buttons with friends. I witnessed this one boss fight where players had to coordinate their attacks to form a super effective strategy—imagine a ring of doom around the enemy! That’s the kind of teamwork that gets my gamer heart racing.

All in all, I can’t wait to get my hands on Aion 2 and see how it feels. NCSoft seems to have knocked it out of the park with this sequel. With so much focus on character customization and explorative fun, this MMO’s looking like a playground for anyone who loves creating and personalizing their own fantasy adventure. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even find a bright yellow moon to ride around on, soaring majestically through the skies!
