Here's an idea that I got from the April Fool's joke. It would be called something like "Stars and Starships" and be set in the future instead of the past. Instead of spells there would be "technologies." Here's some faction ideas that I had:
The Republic of Humans
Units:
Clone: A highly loyal clone soldier who will fight to the death with his laser rifle.
Power Soldier: An ordinary soldier ehanced with a robotic suit that allows him to wade through a battlefield of enemies without flinching.
Technologies:
Nuclear Warhead: A powerful bomb that has a large radius and can wipe out large fields of enemies. The only drawback would be that it can damage friendly units too.
The CASH (Confederacy of Alien Super Heroes)
Units:
Mutant: A genetically modified alien that sacrifices health for powerful melee attacks
Technologies:
UFO: A beam from the sky that abducts enemies before dropping them again from deadly heights.
The Robotic Empire
Units:
Scout: A very weak robot that can glide through the battlefield to get rid of the fog of war quickly.
Tactical Robot: Endowed with supreme AI, this unit can issue complex orders to its troops to ensure victory.
Technologies:
Nanobots: A cloud of micro robots that can hack into any machine and turn it to their side.
That's all that I can think of for now.

inside of Clones, how about Marines? Also The Humans could have Goliaths which are giant robo-suits.

Pretty cool idea dude, although you need more units and "technologies" I think its a great start.
