Description
Starstorm was the first expansion to the Awesomenauts, which added five new characters to the playable roster: The heroic marine-without-pants Ted McPain, the uncatchable spy-robot Sentry, the hermit technomancer Skree, the warmongering pink dragon Nibbs and the agile star scout Penny Fox. The Kickstarter for this expansion also led to a lot of other awesome features for the game.
Now that Awesomenauts is going Free-to-Play on May 24th 2017, this expansion is no longer relevant as players can now unlock any character using Awesomepoints!
History
Originally Kickstarted in September 2013, the expansion was first released in December 2013. Back then it contained just Ted McPain, with the promise of more characters to come.
Since then the remaining four characters have been added to the expansion, while also adding all the great features that were funded. These features have since become available to all players of Awesomenauts.
Features
- New Characters - Ted McPain, Skree, Sentry X-58, Penny Fox and Nibbs were part of the paid Starstorm expansion. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses, these characters are generally a bit more technical than the base cast.
- Online Spectator mode - First released as offline replays in 2014, this part of the game got a significant upgrade in December 2016. Since then it's possible to watch any present or past match. Players can either spectate friends, highlighted matches or any match through a simple matchID key.
- Modding Support - released early 2017 as the last feature funded through the Kickstarter: extensive modding support. Since update 3.5 players can create their own levels and bundle these with custom settings and custom AI files to create their own gamemodes. The results can easily be shared through the Steam Workshop.
- Custom Games browser - To make it easier for players to find these custom games, a browser was also added. Here players can easily look for a game that suits their style, or create a new one themselves.
